New York Mets slugger JD Davis was robbed of a home run by an umpire
Yes, you read that correctly. In the top of the second inning of the Mets Monday night contest against the Boston Red Sox, New York slugger JD Davis hit what appeared to be a clear home run over the Green Monster. However, the ball was ruled foul on the field, and the Mets didn’t challenge the call.
Thankfully for the Mets’ sake, they did not need the runs, as Boston’s pitching proved to be a train wreck on Monday. While Davis did not leave the yard, the likes of Pete Alonso and Michael Conforto did. If anything, first-year manager Luis Rojas ought to take this as a learning experience. Always, always challenge when runs are at stake.
A bad call didn’t impact the Mets’ chances against the Red Sox on Monday night
One bad call didn’t take away from the Red Sox’s horrendous pitching on Monday night, as Josh Osich and Jeffrey Springs gave up a combined seven earned runs in just over three innings of work. Davis, for one, still managed to get on base before Conforto’s blast, helping to break the game open before Boston’s powerful offense ever had a chance to recover.
New York’s NL East chances hinge upon the likes of Davis, a powerful lineup and an expanded playoff field.
