Houston Astros, Minnesota Twins, MLB Postseason

The Astros are the villain who won’t die in the MLB playoffs

The Houston Astros and their inherent evilness advance to the 2020 ALDS.

Evil prevailed over good on Wednesday with the Houston Astros advancing to the 2020 ALDS.

Though no team may be more reviled in the MLB, that hasn’t stopped Houston’s winning ways in October. By defeating the utterly toothless Minnesota Twins, who cannot win a postseason game for the life of the them, the Astros are the first team to advance to the League Division Series in either league. They’ll face the winner of the Oakland Athletics and the Chicago White Sox.

It looks like the A’s and the White Sox just picked up a bunch of fans.

Had this been a normal baseball season, the No. 6-seeded Astros wouldn’t have qualified for the postseason. They were able to play in the postseason this year because they finished in second place in their division behind the A’s. Even if the Twins get to hang an AL Central championship banner, it will feel incredibly empty. They haven’t won a postseason game in a decade-plus.

For the Astros, they eagerly await to see what goes down in Oakland between the division rival A’s and the up-and-coming White Sox. Chicago took Game 1 on Tuesday at The Coliseum, thanks to a terrific outing by their ace Lucas Giolito. Even though the A’s are the No. 2 seed in the AL, they have had plenty of postseason futility over the years, especially in the Moneyball era.

It’s a totally new season in baseball. This best-of-three Wild Card series has been incredibly entertaining and hopefully is here to stay. Baseball has given us somewhat of a March Madness feel to it, as we had five postseason games on at the same time at one point. Now that Houston is in the ALDS, they will make the trek to California to prepare for another deep postseason run.

Maybe either the A’s or the White Sox will be able to beat the reigning AL Champions in California?
