With so much potential change coming for the St. Louis Cardinals, the team could have a totally different feel next season.
Come 2021, St. Louis Cardinals fans everywhere need to start preparing themselves for some major changes for the team they know and love. That’s because some veterans appear to be on their way out of town.
Earlier this offseason, fans were disappointed to find out future Hall-of-Famer Yadier Molina has been receiving plenty of interest from other clubs, including the New York Mets and New York Yankees.
He’s not the only stud who could be leaving, as Adam Wainwright and Kolten Wong are also free agents. It’s looking more and more likely that all three could be rocking new jerseys this spring.
The Cardinals will undergo a massive makeover
The Wong news is the latest to sting for the St. Louis faithful, as it was reported earlier this week he was presented with a new multi-year deal from the club. However, the standout infielder wasted no time in turning that contract offer down. With Wong expected to connect with other teams, the Toronto Blue Jays have already emerged as a potential landing spot.
The Cardinals are coming off a bit of a disappointing season, as they finished 30-28 in 2020 and in second place of the NL Central standings. Their season ended with a 2-1 series loss to the San Diego Padres in the Wild Card Round. The club is of course hoping to get back to the postseason in 2021, but that task will be made even harder if Molina, Wainwright and Wong all leave.
It’s going to be a wild offseason all over Major League Baseball. In St. Louis, though, we could see a major culture change coming if so many players decide to sign elsewhere.
