After six memorable years with the Chicago Cubs, Jon Lester is testing free agency and the Giants are interested in signing him.
Has Jon Lester player his last game with the Chicago Cubs? The veteran left-handed hurler is officially a free agent after spending six years at Wrigley Field.
As you might imagine, there are multiple teams interested in bringing the starting pitcher to their city for next season. Per a report, the latest club ready to make a run at potentially signing him is San Francisco. Will Lester be trading his Cubs jersey in for a Giants one in 2021?
The San Francisco Giants reportedly have interest in signing Jon Lester
A five-time All-Star, Lester has had an incredible 15-year career in the bigs, which started with the Boston Red Sox way back in 2006. Throughout his career, he’s recorded 193 wins and a 3.60 ERA. Lester last made the All-Star Game in 2018, a season in which he finished with 18 wins.
Now that he’s potentially looking for a new club, San Francisco is ready to make a move here. However, it’s not set in stone that Lester will be leaving the Windy City. There’s reportedly interest in a reunion.
At the same time, Lester did prepare for life after Chicago just in case, as he said goodbye to Cubs fans in the best way possible. Knowing he may be leaving town, Lester opened up his checking account and bought fans in Chicago beer for an entire weekend, racking up a bill of more than $40,000.
It remains to be seen if Lester will be donning a new uniform next season or not. If he does, keep an eye out to see if San Francisco is able to convince him to head to the NL West.
