Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees

The Tigers social media team just hilariously trolled the Yankees

The Detroit Tigers social media team couldn’t help but throw some shade towards fans of the New York Yankees.

When it comes to fanbases, none is more virtually hated on than the New York Yankees. They do have some tough competition in the form of the Houston Astros due to the 2017 sign-stealing scandal, but it’s essentially a birthright to mock the Bronx Bombers. Fans do it on social media, and as it turns out, fellow MLB clubs join in.

On Wednesday, the official Twitter account of the Detroit Tigers sent out two photos in a tweet. One was for Tigers fans to tap, while the other was designated for Yankee fans. When clicking on the Tigers fan photo, the social media account sends their love to their beloved fanbase. As for Yankee fans, they were subjected to quite a sick burn upon expanding the image.

Somebody loves you, Yankees fans

“Somebody loves you???” Way to put Yankees fans down on their Tuesday evening! But hey, we’re sure New York fans have heard much worse.

The Yankees are coming off yet another campaign where they missed out on a World Series berth after falling to the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS. The Yankees are not expected to be huge players in free agency, but are prioritizing re-signing star infielder D.J. LeMahieu.

As for the Tigers, they improved upon their win percentage in 2020 as compared to their disastrous 2019 campaign. Sensing that their rebuild is near completion, the organization opted to hire A.J. Hinch as their new manager. Hinch was suspended by MLB for the entire 2020 season due to his role in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. Shortly after the suspension, Houston fired Hinch. Given his success with the once basement-dweller Astros, many teams were enticed to hire Hinch, and the Tigers managed to secure him.

In fact, the Tigers social media team took a shot at the rival Chicago White Sox for pulling out of the Hinch sweepstakes in favor of hiring Baseball Hall-of-Famer Tony La Russa, a man who hadn’t managed in nearly 10 years.

Will the Tigers have a better season than the Yankees in 2021? Probably not, but that’s not going to stop them from taking digs at the New York fanbase.
