Kyle Schwarber sends message to Cubs fans after signing with Nationals

Kyle Schwarber sent a heartfelt message to Cubs fans after signing with the Nationals.

It’s the end of an era for Kyle Schwarber and the Chicago Cubs after the outfielder signed a massive deal with the Washington Nationals. Schwarber took a moment from what is probably a pretty big transition to address his fans in Chicago and around the world.

“Thank you for the opportunity, all the memories and will always have you guys in my heart,” he tweeted on Saturday. “Thank you, Chicago!”

Kyle Schwarber spent six seasons with the Cubs

Schwarber spent six seasons in a Cubs uniform and in his final season with the club he hit 11 home runs in 59 games, batting .188.

The one-year agreement’s terms were not officially revealed but MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports the deal was worth $10 million.

Schwarber was a beloved fan-favorite during his time in Chicago where he made a heroic comeback from a devastating knee injury to inspire the team to a World Series championship in 2016. His loss will be felt both in the lineup and locker room but he’ll be a tremendous addition to the Nationals where he’ll bolster a lineup with Juan Soto and Josh Bell who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in an offseason trade.
