Devastating news arrived for the Los Angeles Angels with Dexter Fowler suffering a torn ACL over the weekend against the Toronto Blue Jays.
On Saturday, heartbreaking news came in for the Los Angeles Angels and veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler. In a showdown with the Toronto Blue Jays over in Florida, Fowler went down on a play trying to run to second and he couldn’t get up.
It’s since been announced that he’s suffered a torn ACL. Just like that, his 2021 season has officially come to a close. Despite the disheartening update, Fowler is trying to stay positive. As a matter of fact, he’s refusing to end his career this way, as he’s already focused on next season.

“Comeback season has commenced,” Fowler said, via ESPN. “The cards I’ve been dealt, so you’ve got to deal with them and go at it like that.
“I want to continue to play. I think I’ve still got a lot left in the tank. Right now I just want to get the knee back right and get going again.”
Thus far this season, Fowler was hitting .250, recording five hits in 20 at-bats. Fowler is in his first year with the Angels, arriving to the AL West after spending the previous four seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. He’s also had stints with the Chicago Cubs, Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies throughout his outstanding 14-year career.
Angels manager Joe Maddon didn’t mince words in describing how big the loss of Fowler is for his team.
“He’s one of those glue guys, man,” Maddon said via ESPN. “He really makes a difference. He does. You talk about it all the time with clubhouse guys, but this guy really is one.”
Now, Fowler will look to work overtime in his rehab and do everything he can to make sure he’s back to 100 percent health come next spring training.
