Cleveland Indians, New York Mets

Cleveland Indians and Francisco Lindor are polar opposites right now

The Cleveland Indians have been rolling, while former shortstop Francisco Lindor has struggled at the start of his New York Mets career.

Prior to the start of the season, it appeared that the New York Mets have won their trade with the Cleveland Indians for superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor. Not only did they secure him for the 2021 season, but also locked him in to a massive 12-year contract extension. Since the season started, Lindor has struggled at the plate, leading to a benching on Wednesday.

But how has Cleveland been doing recently? As it turns out, pretty well.

Cleveland is now on a five-game winning streak after they defeated the Kansas City Royals 4-0 on Thursday, completing their sweep of their rivals. Now, Cleveland sits atop the AL Central division.

Cleveland Indians in first place in the AL Central

Cleveland entered the series with a 13-13 record on the season, three games behind the 16-10 Royals. In the four-game set, Cleveland outscored Kansas City 24-13. Not bad for the AL Central team.

Lindor was expected by New York fans to make an immediate impact on the team, both on the field and in the batter’s box. For the latter, that has not happened.

The shortstop had gone through a stretch where he had not recorded a single hit since New York’s game against the Boston Red Sox on Apr. 27. Since that contest, Lindor had gone on a six-game hitless streak up until this Thursday’s game 4-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals, where he recorded a single in the top of the ninth inning.

Through 25 games, Lindor is slashing .163/.297/.207 while recording one home run, three RBI, 11 runs scored and 15 hits.

There is still plenty of time left for Lindor to turn things around and become a threat in the batter’s box for the Mets. Do not tell Cleveland fans that, let them enjoy their run to the top of the AL Central standings.
