Noah Syndergaard was nearing a return for the New York Mets, but his rehab start in St. Lucie went bad on Tuesday night.
Syndergaard was hoping to make his way to Queens in mid-June, but it looks like that goal might have to be put on the back-burner as the Mets starter was removed from his rehab start after just one inning. Thor was scheduled to pitch four innings for the Single-A affiliate.
There is no report of injury just yet, but we’ll keep you updated. For now, Syndergaard was simply removed as a precaution. His stuff looked adequate, per scouts, though his slider did not bite. Noah’s fastball lived in the 94-95 mph zone early.
New York Mets can’t afford another injury to pitching staff
With Jacob deGrom finally coming back, the Mets can’t afford another setback in their pitching staff. Carlos Carrasco, who was part of the Francisco Lindor trade, will not pitch until July at the earliest. Factor in deGrom, who was playing at an MVP pace through the first month-plus of the season, and the Mets are struggling to put together much of a run to stay atop the NL East.
