The New York Yankees could really use a boost to their starting rotation at the trade deadline.
The clock is ticking, and the 2021 New York Yankees are running out of time to save their season.
New York entered play on Saturday vs. the New York Mets at 41-39 on the season. While a winning record at this point of the year would typically be a good thing, it has the Yankees in fourth place in the AL East. They are 9.5 games back of the arch rival Boston Red Sox. In need of a spark, maybe they can trade for one of these starting pitchers who could be readily available this July?

With the Colorado Rockies pretty much already out of it in the NL West, it would serve the franchise to sell off many of its best assets at the deadline. While most people typically think of Colorado as a place where you can get top-flight hitters, their best trade assets this year actually toe the rubber. One player who could be readily available for the right price is German Marquez.
Marquez is in his sixth big-league season out of Venezuela. The 26-year-old right-hander is 7-6 on the year with a 3.62 ERA and a 1.188 WHIP in 17 starts for the Rockies. He is signed through the 2021 MLB season and will not be hitting free agency again until 2024. This means the Rockies will want a strong offer for their right-hander, but he may provide long-term stability to New York.
If the Yankees are willing to give up a top prospect or two, they can have Marquez for the next two-and-a-half seasons and be in prime position to re-sign him on a new deal as he approaches his 30s. After having led the National League in innings a year ago and starts in the last two seasons, Marquez is the workhouse the Yankees are in dire need of to help revamp their rotation.
Marquez is a sneaky-good pitcher to trade for, but the Yankees will not acquire him at a discount.
