St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays

Cardinals reportedly land starter T.J. Zeuch from the Blue Jays

The St. Louis Cardinals have gone out and made a move before the deadline, trading for Toronto Blue Jays starter T.J. Zeuch.

You just knew the St. Louis Cardinals were going to make a move to try and help out the depth for the starting rotation before the deadline. Well, the NL Central club went ahead and made an interesting deal on Sunday.

According to FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray, the Cardinals have acquired 25-year-old starting pitcher T.J. Zeuch from the Toronto Blue Jays. Zeuch is a former first-round pick. Things didn’t quite work out for him in Toronto, but he now has a second chance in St. Louis.

T.J. Zeuch was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Blue Jays

Zeuch has spent the majority of his season in Triple-A. The Blue Jays actually designated him for assignment earlier this week, meaning the team had a week to either ship him to a new squad or have him hit waivers.

St. Louis was more than ready to give him a shot, making the trade with the Blue Jays to get him to town. Zeuch was a former top prospect for Toronto, but again, he simply never lived up to the hype after being drafted in 2016.

In the past three years, Zeuch made 13 appearances for the Blue Jays, with seven starts. This season, made three starts and pitched in five contests. He struggled on the bump for the Blue Jays, recording a 6.60 ERA.

Because of this, the team had him down in the minors working to try and get his game back to a high level. Now, though, Zeuch will look to turn heads with the Cardinals. St. Louis is nine games back in the Central. They’re expected to make more trades to try and get back in contention.
