Shortstop Javy Baez sent a message to Chicago Cubs fans after he was traded to the New York Mets on Friday.

The Chicago Cubs fanbase dreaded this day, but they knew what was coming as the MLB trade deadline approached on Friday. Shortstop Javy Baez was one of the Cubs’ core players who was set to become a free agent at the end fo the season, and the team opted to trade Baez to the New York Mets alongside right-handed pitcher Trevor Williams in exchange for New York’s outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong (No. 5 in farm system).

Baez spoke to the media on Friday after he was traded to the Mets, and he decided to send a message to the Cubs fans that have cheered him on since he made his debut in 2014.

Baez solidified himself as a star during his time with the Cubs, where he won a Gold Glove (2020), a Silver Slugger (2018) and the NLCS MVP award (2016). The latter honor played a pivotal role in the team reaching the World Series and winning the Commissioner’s Trophy for the first time since 1908.

Through 91 games this season, Baez is slashing .248/.292/.484 while recording 22 home runs, 65 RBI, 48 runs scored and 83 hits. In his career, the shortstop accumulated a .262 batting average and a .777 OPS while tallying 140 home runs, 443 RBI, 419 runs scored and 754 hits.

Cubs fans, it may hurt to see Baez wearing a Mets uniform, there is always the chance that he re-signs with the team as a free agent. Whatever happens, you always have the memories that he provided you in his eight years with the organization.
