Rockies issue statement over racial slur directed at Lewis Brinson

The Colorado Rockies have issued a statement over the racial slur directed at Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson by a fan during Sunday afternoon’s game in Denver.

Hours after the series finale ended, the Colorado Rockies released their official statement on the unfortunate incident of a Rockies fans yelling a racial slur while Miami Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson was at the plate.

The Rockies organization is “disgusted” by the act of one of their fans in the ninth inning of Sunday afternoon’s game. While they were unable to identify the fan before the game ended, the organization is still investigating the matter. “The Rockies have zero tolerance for any form of racism or discrimination” being used by any spectator at one of their games at Coors Field.

Here is the official statement sent out over Twitter by the Rockies organization on Sunday night.

Though there is some debate that the alleged fan in question was calling out for the Rockies’ anthropomorphic triceratops mascot Dinger while Brinson was at the plate, his unsettling yelling was certainly loud enough to be picked up by the mic during the Rockies telecast. Either way, the Rockies organization is getting all sorts of bad publicity for this unfortunate incident in Denver.

Colorado won the game over the Marlins 13-8 to improve to 51-61 on the year. Miami fell to 47-65 on the season in this Sunday matinee defeat. The Rockies begin a two-game road series vs. the interleague rival Houston Astros on Tuesday, while the Marlins stay out West and will begin a three-game road series vs. the San Diego Padres in sunny Southern California on Tuesday as well.

Let’s hope we have more clarification on what went down in Denver Sunday by the end of the day.
