Chris Sale throws a hissy fit on the mound after giving up home run

Boston Red Sox ace Chris Sale didn’t take kindly to Ryan Mountcastle’s game-tying home run.

With the Red Sox holding a two-run lead over the Baltimore Orioles and needing as many wins as possible to maintain a playoff spot, Sale was the ideal pitcher on the mound to give Boston a better chance to do just that.

Unfortunately, that’s not how it went down. Instead, Sale gave up a two-run blast to Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, thus relinquishing Boston’s lead with one swing of the bat.

The Red Sox have thrived this season against the Orioles — as most of baseball has, given their abysmal overall record. This makes Sale’s inability to hold onto the lead all the more frustration for the Boston ace.

Boston Red Sox: Chris Sale throws a tantrum on the mound

Sale was upset in the aftermath of Mountcastle’s home run, and reacted as such. Unfortunately for him, the cameras caught it all.

Thankfully, the Red Sox aren’t wearing those yellow jerseys anymore, or else Sale would’ve cut them up immediately.

Many fans wondered why Sale wasn’t lined up to pitch against the rival Yankees at Fenway Park — a series New York swept, by the way. Given his inability to hold the Orioles at bay, perhaps Alex Cora’s decision to hold Sale out makes more sense.
