The Houston Astros picked up a win in Game 2 of the World Series over the Braves but winning at home might actually be a bad omen.
After getting dominated at home in Minute Maid Park in Game 1 of the World Series, the Houston Astros flipped the script on the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night.
While it was 1-1 after the top of the second, a huge four-run bottom of the inning for the Astros blew the game open and gave Houston a massive cushion moving forward. Behind a strong performance from Jose Urquidy and then the bullpen, the home team was able to pick up the big win to even the series as it heads to Atlanta.
It was also actually a bit of mini-history for the World Series as well in this game. Crazy enough, this was the first time the home team has won a game in the Fall Classic since 2018 when the Los Angeles Dodgers won on an 18th-inning walk-off home run over the Red Sox.
Astros are the first team to win a home World Series game since 2018, but that might not be a good thing.
While evening the series at 1-1 may look good on the surface, any fan who’s superstitious might not be feeling great about breaking the home-team losing streak.
As mentioned, the 2018 Dodgers were the last team to accomplish the modest feat. But what’s important to remember about that team is that was the only game Los Angeles won in that series with the Red Sox taking the title.
Of course, this is a bit different with the Astros and Braves considering that the series now heads to Atlanta where, to win the series over the next three games, the Braves would have to win at home. So really, there’s not much of a bad omen to look at.
Even still, it’s an odd bit of trivia that Houston is the first team in three years to win at home in the World Series. In the opposite dugout, the Braves are certainly hoping they won’t see that trend revived over the next three games.
