Javy Baez could be looking to join his third MLB team during his free agency period this winter.

After being dealt by the Chicago Cubs to the New York Mets at the trade deadline, infielder Javy Baez could be on the move once again in his free agency.

Baez had spent his entire professional career in the Cubs organization prior to being dealt at the deadline to the Mets. While he was expected to help New York contend for a division crown upon arrival, the Mets collapsed down the stretch with one embarrassing incident after another. Though he could re-up with the Mets in his free agency, New York may have buyer’s remorse on the rental.

Here are the five teams that make the most sense to sign Baez in his upcoming MLB free agency.

Toronto Blue Jays

AL East

The Toronto Blue Jays are expected to be big spenders, but will they be?

One team with serious postseason aspirations for 2022 is the Toronto Blue Jays. This on-the-rise team does play in the toughest division in baseball, but their upward trajectory should be very enticing for many prospective free agents. Baez would have to play third base for them, but he could be the missing piece the Blue Jays are in need of offensively. This feels like a reach, though.

New York Yankees

AL East

The New York Yankees are expected to be in the market for a shortstop for 2022

One team Baez could potentially join in his free agency and not have to move again would be to link up with the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers are looking to upgrade at shortstop with Gleyber Torres expected to man second base now. While Baez can play all over the infield, one would think New York would prioritize adding Trevor Story or Corey Seager over him in 2022.

While either of these AL East teams could make sense for Baez, there are three better fits for him in his upcoming free agency period.
