Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays

Does Seiya Suzuki’s social media hint at looming Red Sox move?

Japanese baseball player Seiya Suzuki could head to the MLB next season, and his latest social media move indicates he’s interested in the Boston Red Sox.

Seiya Suzuki has been posted for MLB availability, but the MLB lockout has suspended his 30-posting period for the time being. When the lockout ends, Suzuki will have three weeks to decide which MLB team he’d like to join.

Perhaps he is the player the New York Yankees have anticipated. Criticized for lackluster attempts to pay up for premium talent, the Yankees are one of the biggest names pursuing Suzuki.

But there appears to be only one team Suzuki is listening to — on social media, at least.

Seiya Suzuki is following the Boston Red Sox, and only the Boston Red Sox, on Instagram as of Dec. 5.

While social media follows can be perceived as petty and insignificant, public appearance is everything to professional athletes with social media presences.

Following the Red Sox exclusively indicates an interest in the team, at least in their social media content. To follow one of the teams that is pursuing him in addition to the Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays seems intentional, to say the least.

Suzuki does follow several Red Sox players as well, including David Ortiz and JD Martinez.

Because Suzuki is not currently an MLB player, the stipulations of the lockout do not apply to him, and teams can move forward with their pursuit of him.

Whichever team he joins, the powerful hitter will be an asset to any roster. Per CBS Sports, in the last three seasons, Suzuki has “walked more than he’s struck out and he’s averaged 30 homers a year over the last six.”

Red Sox or not, it seems that Suzuki has a strong chance of playing for the AL East next season — and it could be the team he’s a fan of on Instagram.
