Mets insane comeback vs. Phillies was first of its kind in 331 tries

The New York Mets made an incredible comeback against the Philadelphia Phillies. Of course, this particular comeback is the first of its kind for this team.

Thursday evening, the New York Mets found a way to make another miracle happen.

After falling behind early, the Miracle Mets didn’t show any sign of life until very late in their road game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets trailed 4-0 after the first inning and then ultimately were down 7-1 by the time the ninth inning got started.

And then that’s when shenanigans happened.

The Mets managed to score seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to claim a lead over the Phillies.

And then the Mets won. In fact, the Mets were 0-330 over the past quarter-century when down by six runs entering the ninth inning. 1-330 looks so much better.

That’s just absolutely absurd in so many ways. The Phillies completely choked away a lead they should have been able to hold on to. But that’s not how things played out.

New York Mets complete incredibly rare and impressive comeback against Philadelphia Phillies

Most teams that trail by a half dozen runs at that point in a game simply have no means of finding a way to win. But as it apparently turns out, this particular Mets team can be absolutely unstoppable at really interesting times.

This is just the latest example of the Mets having a really solid start to the 2022 season. While it remains to be seen just how well this team will play down the stretch of the season, the Mets have been thrilling to watch early on.

It’s way too early to say that the Mets are guaranteed to be contenders this year. There’s way too much season left for that to be the case. However, it’s hard to blame Mets fans for believing that it might be possible. That’s especially true when the Mets keep doing things like this.
