Blue Jays brag about outscoring 12 NFL teams in spectacular showing against Phillies

The Toronto Blue Jays are on fire this season chasing the New York Yankees for the top AL East spot, and they proved their reign in comparison to NFL teams.

The Toronto Blue Jays are on fire this season. They’re chasing the New York Yankees for the top AL East spot, sitting just 5.5 games behind. They took home another win for the season against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night, and they exposed several NFL teams during their celebration.

The Blue Jays took the win an 18-11 game, which meant they nearly outscored half of the NFL’s teams in Week 2 of the 2022 season.

The Blue Jays Tweeted a list of NFL teams they outperformed, which was quite an extensive list. They outscored 12 teams total, including the Indianapolis Colts, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos.

They also couldn’t help poking a little fun at Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson’s “Let’s Ride” catchphrase.

While it wasn’t a great week for several NFL teams that got showed up by a professional team in a completely different sport, it’s another feather in their cap for Blue Jays players.

Blue Jays continue AL East ascent in major Phillies win

In recent decades, Toronto hasn’t seen the same level of success as many other MLB franchises have enjoyed. They won two World Series back-to-back in 1992 and 1993, but after that, they missed the playoffs for 20 consecutive seasons.

When they finally made the playoffs again in 2015, they lost the AL Championship Series and did the same in 2016. They missed the playoffs for three more seasons after that, and then in 2020, they competed in the AL Wild Card Series without winning any rounds.

They also don’t typically finish anywhere near the top in the AL East division standings. The last time they placed above third place was in 2016 when they placed second, four games behind the Boston Red Sox.

They’re in one of the most competitive divisions in the league with both the Red Sox and Yankees having a lengthy history of success, so it’s definitely not an easy feat to finish near the top. In recent weeks, neither the Red Sox nor Yankees are finishing strong, while Toronto is coming up fast. The Yankees are currently 89-58, while the Blue Jays are right behind at 84-64.

The Blue Jays have undoubtedly gone through a lot of development leading into this season, and their hard work is paying off. This season may become another notable one in their franchise history.
