Early offseason New York Yankees rumors indicate the team could trade Gleyber Torres, where could he land?
Gleyber Torres helped the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series by proxy. He was one of the major pieces sent to the New York Yankees in the Aroldis Chapman trade. Viewed as one of the future pieces in the Bronx, his name has been the topic of recent Yankees rumors involving trades.
Torres’ time at shortstop has come to an end. Poor defense is the major culprit. His insecure bat has led the Yankees to contemplate moving on from him entirely.
Torres is a top Yankees trade candidate and someone clubs should view more as a second baseman. Days before Thanksgiving, there are already Yankees rumors linking him to at least one team. Who are they and where else could Torres end up?
1) Yankees rumors already link Gleyber Torres to the Seattle Mariners
Torres has already come up as a potential fit for the Seattle Mariners. The typically active Mariners will look to be even more aggressive. They finally snapped their playoff drought last year. The next mission should be to advance beyond the ALDS.
Seattle didn’t get much out of their primary second baseman last season. Adam Frazier is now a free agent and the position is wide open for opportunities. The team has already gone out and added Teoscar Hernandez and traded away former Rookie of the Year Kyle Lewis. They have been one of baseball’s most active teams on the trade front. We shouldn’t expect these Yankees rumors involving them to disappear anytime soon.
The Yankees have an obvious alternative at second base if they do trade Torres. DJ LeMahieu has bounced around their infield. Moving on from Torres will allow him to permanently play his natural position at second base.
It will be interesting to see what the Yankees can pry away from Seattle. A lot more depend on where things stand with Aaron Judge. He’s the priority. Nothing is going to change that.
