David Ross found out about Cubs signing Cody Bellinger on live TV (NSFW Video)

David Ross was on MLB Network when the Cubs signed Cody Bellinger. The results were hilarious.

The MLB‘s Winter Meetings are really exciting because most, if not all, of the important MLB figures are in one place. From general managers to team managers to players themselves, there’s a congregation of the most significant decision-makers in the sport. And with television cameras all around, there’s bound to be some interesting moments documented.

That definitely happened when Chicago Cubs manager David Ross was on MLB Network live as Cody Bellinger’s signing with the team was reported by Jon Heyman.

Here’s a video via Talkin’ Baseball. Just a note and warning, there’s a little bit of NSFW language at the end.

“Nice” Ross repeated upon hearing the news. “You guys are in the know! Like, sh–!”

David Ross seems excited to have Cody Bellinger with the Cubs

Though some on social media poked fun at Ross’s reaction being a fraudulent one, he does seem genuinely excited to have Bellinger in Chicago. I mean, his cussing indicates as much, right? The first baseman/outfielder has spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Dodgers to this point, won an MVP, and has gone to two All-Star games.

Unfortunately, his last two seasons have resulted in his two lowest OPS seasons yet, but Steamer Projections do suggest he should have a small bounce-back year in 2023.

Bellinger is not the player he once was, but he is a name. And maybe that’s what the Cubs need right now? For what it’s worth, they’re not stuck in this forever. It’s a one-year deal worth $17.5 million. Maybe on the high side, but if it goes awry it’s not going to be on the books for long.

Alongside Bellinger, the Cubs also added Jameson Taillon to the pitching staff. They may have overspent there, but he’s on an upward trajectory.

Chicago is coming off a 74-88 season. They’ve missed the postseason two years in a row now. Fans are pining to be able to compete once more after getting a taste of what it’s like in 2016 when they won the World Series.

Who knows, maybe this helps.

David Ross, just watch your mouth next time you’re on live TV.
