Scott Boras finished up Yankees-Carlos Rodon deal at Fenway Park

Sports agent Scott Boras was able to finalize client Carlos Rodon’s contract with the New York Yankees while he was at Fenway Park.

MLB players who are clients of sports agent Scott Boras have secured the bag this offseason. Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts, and Brandon Nimmo have each secured over $100 million contracts with their respective teams.

Those are just three of Boras’ clients, all of them helped to secure a total of $1.01 billion in contracts this winter. There was one big name remaining in Carlos Rodon.

On Thursday night, Rodon agreed to terms with the New York Yankees on a six-year, $162 million contract. Those numbers come courtesy of MLB Network insider Jon Heyman.

For Yankees fans wondering how a deal got done between the team and Rodon, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe detailed how it went down.

Boras finalized the deal while he was at Fenway Park for client Masataka Yoshida’s introductory press conference with the Boston Red Sox. Boras was finalizing the deal as he was eating food from the buffet provided by the Red Sox!

“Moments after the media availability to introduce Yoshida, Boras concluded a deal with the Sox’ rivals, negotiating a six-year, $162 million deal with the New York Yankees for lefthander Carlos Rodón,” writes Speier. “The late-stage negotiations took place as Boras snacked on food from a buffet provided by the Red Sox.”

That has to be music to the ears of Yankee fans. The agent of their big offseason addition finalizing the deal.

The Yankees’ offseason consisted of retaining superstar outfielder Aaron Judge to a nine-year, $360 million contract, and first baseman Anthony Rizzo on a two-year, $40 million deal. Their one addition this offseason was bringing back relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle.

Rodon spent one season with the San Francisco Giants, where he posted a 2.88 ERA, a 1.028 WHIP, 14-8 win-loss record, 237 strikeouts, and 52 walks over 178.0 innings of work (31 starts). He also made the All-Star Game for the second consecutive year.

With the addition of Rodon, the Yankees have one of the more formidable starting rotations alongside Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, Luis Severino, and Frankie Montas. And it was all finalized while Boras was attending Yoshida’s press conference at Fenway Park.
