3 teams that should try to get Carlos Correa on a one-year deal

Carlos Correa’s free agency has stalled. If a short-term deal is on the table, these teams should call Scott Boras.

Carlos Correa has agreed to decade-plus long contracts with two teams this offseason. Both have stalled at the agreement stage before Correa has been able to put pen to paper.

First was the San Francisco Giants, and next was the New York Mets. Medical staffs from both teams have found concerning evidence related to an injury Correa sustained in the minor leagues in 2014 that is forcing them to want more protection on the contract. Understandably, they are hesitant about offering guaranteed money to a player that their medical professionals are leery on.

Scott Boras has had one heck of an offseason. He has secured a mind-numbing number of dollars for his clients this year, and Correa’s is the last left.

At this point, though, with the Mets looking like they may be reneging on the deal, it could be time to look for a short-term contract, perhaps a one-year deal, elsewhere. More teams are already contacting Boras to see what the new ask might be. A one-year deal would give Correa the platform to prove himself worthy of a massive contract once again.

If Boras and Correa go down the path of a one-year deal, these three teams should be on the phone. A shift like that completely changes the calculus on spending money on him since you won’t be committed for long. Teams with different risk profiles can hop into the bidding.

Honorary mention as a short-term Carlos Correa destination: Minnesota Twins

This one we’ll toss in to start. It’s incredibly obvious. Carlos Correa has familiarity with the Minnesota Twins organization having played there on a short-term deal last season, the one he opted out of to seek a longer deal this summer.

It would be a seamless transition to get back to Minnesota.
