The Yankees had Aaron Judge take reps at first base, the pitch clock could really hurt the Astros, Bryan Reynolds is a distraction for the Pirates and more.

Do you smell that? It’s an early sign of Spring, as pitchers and catchers have reported to team facilities to prepare for the regular season. Spring training brings with it unforeseen expectations, and storylines that could come back to haunt any team.

For the Pittsburgh Pirates, there is no excuse. Bryan Reynolds requested a trade long ago, and they have yet to deal their star outfielder elsewhere. Reynolds disagreement with the Bucs is related to his contract value. Reynolds would like a new one, and thus far Pirates GM Ben Cherington is unwilling to give him one.

So, what’s next for the Pirates star?

MLB news: Will the Pittsburgh Pirates trade Bryan Reynolds this spring?

Bryan Reynolds said he remains open to signing a ‘fair’ extension with the Pirates, though the two sides definition of fair appears far apart. The more likely resolution is a trade, which would make Reynolds just the latest in a long line of Pittsburgh star outfielders to be shown the door in exchange for prospects.

Two potential suitors — the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants — remain interested. Considering Reynolds still has several years left on his current contract, his value is said to be high, and the Bucs are asking for a lot in return for his services.

Reynolds is coming off a down year in which he slashed .262/.345/.461, but much of that was due to a poor first half. He’s an All-Star caliber outfielder on an affordable contract. Expect the trade talks to heat up now, and prior to the deadline if he remains a Pirate.
