MLB news: Cubs star Seiya Suzuki will recruit Shohei Ohtani at the WBC, Orioles CEO John Angelos needs to stop talking, and Aaron Judge hints that 62 home runs is only the beginning.

Shohei Ohtani will be the premier free agent on the market next offseason, barring he stays healthy. The numbers thrown around by pundits guessing his next contract are upwards of $500 million, potentially more depending on the season he has.

Ohtani won the AL MVP in 2021, and finished second last season to a surging Aaron Judge. He is a two-way player the likes of which we haven’t seen since Babe Ruth. Unfortunately for Ruth, the money in baseball is far greater now than it was during his playing days.

The Japanese sensation will be heavily recruited by just about any team with a connection. You can add the Cubs to that list thanks to Seiya Suzuki.

MLB news: Cubs to recruit Shohei Ohtani

Seiya Suzuki will play on the same team as Ohtani…at the World Baseball Classic. The WBC is a rare chance for MLB stars to play on the same team, and form relationships that last a lifetime. For Suzuki, it’s a chance to tell Ohtani all about playing in Chicago.

It’s unclear whether the Cubs would want to follow through on Suzuki’s recruiting efforts, merely due to the amount of money it will cost to land Ohtani. A team is not built by one player, as the Angels know all too well.
