Jackson Holliday spring training stats: Orioles top pick is already must-see

Baltimore Orioles’ 2022 first-overall draft pick Jackson Holliday is already a must-see prospect during Spring Training. What are Jackson Holliday spring training stats?

At just 19 years old, Jackson Holliday has already been turning heads in Spring Training. He isn’t your prototypical 19-year-old since he was born into a baseball family. For many, the pressure would be too much and it would take a while to get the early jitters out. Not when it comes to the Baltimore Orioles’ third-ranked prospect.

Before Spring Training, he had only 20 professional games on his resume and was getting prepared for his first Spring Training in the big leagues. Last year, Holliday spent most of his time in the Florida Complex League and the rest with Single-A Delmarva. In those games, Holliday averaged .297 at the plate, one home run, and five RBIs, per Baseball Reference.

In just eight at-bats, the young shortstop has three hits and 1 RBI. He has seemed confident at the plate and as expected, looks at ease defensively as well.

Typically, with such little experience in professional ball, Holliday wouldn’t have gotten a non-roster invite to camp, but as we all know he is a different case. Per MLB.com’s Jake Rill, Orioles manager Mike Elias thought it was the ride move from the jump.

“We thought he could handle it; we thought he was ready for it. He had a really good debut and did well in A ball and seems to be a very mature kid. So we thought it would be a good experience for him, even though that’s not the norm.”

More than likely, he will eventually be to Minor League camp, but overall the experience should be quite valuable for Holliday. He may still be a couple of years away from the big leagues. but this experience will benefit him even more in the long term. Not only is he learning how camp works, but he is spending time getting to know his teammates.

Holliday is having fun and that is what Spring Training is all about for a young man with some much untapped potential. It’s been exhilarating seeing his growth so far this Spring.
