It appears as though the Oakland A’s will be parting ways with outfielder Cristian Pache. Where might the talented defender land?
In a surprising move, the Oakland Athletics, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, appear ready to move on from outfielder Cristian Pache. The former top prospect was a big part of the trade that sent first baseman Matt Olson to the Atlanta Braves last spring.
Pache, always known more for his glove than his bat, will apparently be on the trade block with just days left before Opening Day. If the A’s cannot find a trade partner, the organization will have to designate Pache for assignment as the 24-year-old has no minor league options remaining.
There’s always the outside chance that Pache could pass through waivers, but it’s not every day that a Gold Glove-caliber becomes available. Which three teams would make logical landing destinations for Pache?

It’s unlikely that many contending teams would be in the market for Cristian Pache. Sure, a number of clubs could use his glove, but those fringe contenders and rebuilding squads would be more likely to take on the risk of a defensive-minded centerfielder with very little pop in his bat.
Enter the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies have actually made some savvy last-minute acquisitions already this spring by signing Mike Moustakas and Jurickson Profar. While Kris Bryant and Profar have the corner outfield spots locked down, the same cannot be said for center field.
With the expansive outfield at Coors Field, the Rockies should jump at the opportunity to bring in Pache. With his speed and that arm, would-be doubles would be turned into singles, and would-be triples might stop at second base.
There’s also the offensive upside that comes with playing half of one’s games in the thin air of the Mile High City. If you’re looking for dark horse to enter the Cristian Pache, keep an eye on the Colorado Rockies.
