MLB London Series set with another big rivalry in 2024

The MLB is going back to London in 2024, and the two teams set to face off are classic NL East rivals.

The MLB has announced which teams will be traveling overseas to take part in its London Series in 2024: the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. Mark your calendars for this one.

This June, the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs are set to play their regular season series in London, which markets as an exciting fixture as well.

The MLB London Series after that will feature the Mets and Phillies, and that just might be the most scintillating overseas matchup so far.

The London Series began in 2019, when the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox got things started with their MLB series at London Stadium; the Yankees won both games.

The league was going to send the Cardinals and Cubs to London in 2020, but that matchup was cancelled due to the pandemic. Moving forward, there will be MLB games in London this year, in 2024, and in 2026.

Seeing the Mets-Phillies fixture for 2024 will downright give fans goosebumps.

MLB London Series in 2024 pits the NY Mets against the Phillies

This is all part of the MLB’s attempt to incite interest in baseball worldwide. This past April, the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants played a two-game series at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú in Mexico.

The league also plans to host games in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, along with a potential Paris series in 2025.

In addition, the San Diego Union Tribune reported that the Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers will take their rivalry overseas in South Korea next year, though the MLB has not yet confirmed the news.

It’s an exciting time for baseball, what with the new pitch clock rules and the scheduled worldwide games.

Hopefully, the Mets will be in much better shape when they take on the Phillies across the pond, and the same goes for Philadelphia. Both teams have limped along in their respective bruised-up starts of the 2023 season, but you would expect one of the league’s most expensive rosters and the 2022 World Series runner-ups to bounce back soon enough.
