Phillies vs. Rockies prediction and odds for Friday, May 12 (Back Colorado’s bats)

The Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies are set to play in a three-game series over the weekend.

Game 1 is set for tonight in Colorado and it will feature a pitching matchup of Taijuan Walker (5.97 ERA) and Austin Gomber (6.75 ERA).

Let’s dive into the betting odds, as well as my prediction, for tonight’s National League showdown.

Phillies vs. Rockies odds, run line, and total

Phillies vs. Rockies prediction and pick

Austin Gomber’s ERA isn’t exactly great at 6.75, but when you look at his FIP (Field Independent Pitching) of 5.77, he’s been playing slightly better than his ERA may indicate.

It’s going to help him tonight that he gets to take on a Phillies team that has struggled against lefties this season. Their OPS drops from .762 against right-handed pitchers to .717 against lefties, which ranks 21st amongst all Major League teams.

It’s the same story for the Rockies, whose OPS improves from .683 against lefties to .723 against righties. That means it’s great news for them that they get to face right-handed starter, Taijuan Walker.

Walker has allowed 2.1 home runs per nine innings, so he’s going to be up against it at Coors Field in Colorado.

I think the Rockies bats will get to him and Gomber is going to keep things together. For that reason, I’ll back the Rockies as slight home underdogs.

Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
