Dodger Stadium plans to reinforce its right field fence and add padding after New York Yankees star Aaron Judge injured his toe after crashing into it.
The New York Yankees have not had superstar outfielder Aaron Judge since their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers this past Saturday. During that game, Judge crashed through the right field fence at Dodger Stadium while attempting to make a catch. As a result, he experienced swelling in his right big toe after colliding with the concrete portion of the fencing. Now, the Yankees wait to see if he will need a trip on the injured list.
On Tuesday, Dodgers team president Stan Kasten said, via Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, that the team is going to reinforce the right field fence and add padding to the concrete portion of it.
“He didn’t go through the door, which is what I thought when I was watching the game,” Kasten said, h/t The Athletic. “Then I got out there and realized the door doesn’t open in that direction.
“He actually broke through where some of the panels were joined, the barrier between the two connecting panels. Which is unbelievable. But we’re going to strengthen that and add a strip of padding on the bottom as well.”
Dodger Stadium to reinforce fence, add padding after Aaron Judge’s injury
While the Dodgers prepare to make these adjustments, the Yankees await word on whether or not Judge will be placed on the injured list.
Judge has not been in the lineup since that game. Even after the off day, Judge wasn’t placed in Tuesday’s lineup for New York’s game against the Chicago White Sox. Manager Aaron Boone revealed that the swelling has gone down in Judge’s toe, but the team’s physician is going to take a look at it that day to see if it is broken and if he will need to go on the injured list.
Before the injury, Judge had won the American League’s Player of the Month for May after recording a .342 batting average, a .474 on-base percentage, a .882 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, 23 runs scored, and 25 RBI in 21 games.
For MLB outfielders, you can expect the right field fence to be reinforced and have padding at the concrete portion of the wall at Dodger Stadium.
