The Chicago White Sox made a move to court new Bears quarterback Justin Fields by creating a custom jersey just for him before the Cubs could have a say.
The Chicago Bears may have Justin Fields’ undivided loyalty, but two other teams in Chicago are already competing for the quarterback’s baseball allegiance.
The White Sox struck the first blow by showing off a custom Fields jersey.
Your move, Cubs.
The Cubs haven’t mentioned Fields in any capacity since he was drafted with the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, so they’ve got some catching up to do.
Meanwhile, fans at Thursday’s White Sox game against the Detroit Tigers let out a huge cheer when they found out the Bears found their quarterback.
The excitement in the city is palpable.
Justin Fields won’t pick sides between White Sox and Cubs just yet
Fields kept from ruffling any feathers with a diplomatic answer on the question of his baseball fandom. He’s not picking sides, yet.
Realistically, the White Sox and Cubs have more competition with the Atlanta Braves than with each other. Fields is from Georgia and was pictured at a Cubs-Braves game wearing an Atlanta ballcap.
The big competition will be to figure out which team manages to book him to throw out the first pitch at a game before the other. He’d probably be wearing a custom jersey just like the one the White Sox already have waiting for him.
If the Bears have their way, Fields will be a fixture of the Chicago sports scene for many years to come. Despite his drop out of the top 10, he’s still one of the most exciting and intriguing prospects coming into the league this year.
The quarterback has a background in baseball, having played baseball in high school.
