Atlanta Braves right-hander Mike Soroka has re-torn his injured right Achilles tendon.
The Atlanta Braves suffer yet another devastating blow, as right-handed starting pitcher Mike Soroka has re-torn his injured right Achilles tendon and will be out for the rest of the season.
Soroka had missed the bulk of the shortened 2020 MLB season after initially tearing his Achilles. While he did pitch during Spring Training, it did not seem like he would be back in the Braves rotation anyway this year. Though there was a slim chance he could return, Soroka felt a pop in his right leg walking to the clubhouse. The last two years have been a nightmare for the Braves ace.
If you needed another sign of it absolutely not being the Braves’ season, well, here you go then.
Atlanta Braves: Mike Soroka re-tears his injured Achilles tendon, out for year
The three-time defending NL East champions are looking more and more like a non-postseason team this season. Atlanta is 36-39 on the year and five games back of the arch rival New York Mets for first place in the division. Only one team is making the postseason out of the bad NL East this year, and it is probably not going to be the Braves. They might be sellers at the deadline now.
If there is any good news from this it is that the Braves have seen two of their younger pitchers step up big time in Soroka’s extended absence in the last year-and-a-half in Ian Anderson and Max Fried. Anything Soroka would have given the Braves this year would have been gravy. However, with him being back on the mend, who knows how much he could even play in 2022?
For Soroka to re-tear his Achilles by simply walking around, oh, this is so incredibly painful.
