Boston Red Sox fans are not happy with Garrett Richards and they’re calling for him to be DFA’d as soon as possible.
It goes without saying, but the Boston Red Sox are in a bit of a cold streak. After looking so sharp throughout the spring and summer, the Red Sox are 2-8 in their last 10 games and three games back of the Rays in the AL East standings.
With the team hoping to get back on track against the Blue Jays on Sunday, fans were basically ready to throw in the towel after Garrett Richards struggled early on. Things got so bad in fact, plenty of folks were calling for the team to send him packing.
Garrett Richards didn’t start off hot on Sunday and fans turned against him
Richards gave up a run in the first and third innings. Don’t forget about the five hits. Boston took a 7-2 lead into the fifth inning, but that still didn’t matter. Red Sox fans are clearly still not happy with Richards and don’t think he’ll be a reliable option later this season.
While Richards was able to calm down a bit after giving up the two runs early on, that’s still not enough to get people off his back. Richards has had a year to forget for Boston, as he’s 6-7 with a 5.21 ERA.
That high of an ERA is of course concerning for skipper Alex Cora. You think Boston supporters want to see Richards take the bump against an AL powerhouse in the postseason? Folks would have anxiety just thinking about things before the opening pitch.
Cora may keep sending Richards out every 4-5 games, but if you ask the folks outside of Fenway Park, they want something to change and fast.
