White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn was tossed for throwing his belt during a foreign substance check.
The temper tantrums regarding MLB’s foreign substance checks aren’t dying down.
On Wednesday, White Sox starter Lance Lynn got ejected when he appeared to throw his belt towards an umpire during one such check.
Here’s the video of the incident:
And here’s a close up where you can more clearly see Lynn throw the belt towards the umpire:
Lynn definitely was not happy about the ejection.
It’s hard to figure out exactly what was going on there. From one side, Lynn clearly threw his belt at an umpire. At best, it looks petulant.
From the other perspective, Lynn could have just been tossing his belt back at the request of the umpire, no harm intended. It still looks petulant.
Lance Lynn was ejected over a foreign substance check
According to Jessica Kleinschmidt of NBC Sports Bay Area, part of the ejection was Lynn “saying a few things.”
Pitchers get fired up. That’s no surprise. At the same time, the foreign substance checks have been going on for long enough that pitchers really have no excuse for being irate over them.
It seems that Lynn let his frustration over giving up a home run get the best of him. Instead of being able to rally with a strong performance in a 1-1 game, he threw a fit and got himself ejected. He should know better.
Lynn exited the game with four innings pitched, four strikeouts, three walks and one earned run given up on a home run.
The White Sox and Athletics are in the middle of a series that has been filled with dramatic moments. On Tuesday night, pitcher Chris Bassitt took a line drive to the face and had to be carted off the field.
Chicago won the first two meetings, with the series continuing through Thursday.
