The future is not now, despite the Nationals young battery of Josiah Gray and Keibert Ruiz. Bryce Harper took Gray deep early for a rude awakening.
Gray, who was acquired in the trade of Trea Turner and Max Scherzer to the Los Angeles Dodgers, is making his sixth career start for the Nationals. Paired with Keibert Ruiz, the Nationals have plenty to look forward to for the future in D.C.
But in the present, this baseball team is not very good. Sure, they still have Juan Soto, but the final product is a ton of losses, and not many wins.
They received another reminder of their successful past thanks to Bryce Harper, who hit an absolute bomb for his 100th home run in Nationals Park.
Bryce Harper hoping to lead Phillies to NL East crown
The Phillies are down 4.5 games to the division-leading Atlanta Braves at the moment, but they must take advantage of bad opponents like the Nationals. Playing young teams down the stretch could very much benefit Philadelphia, whose schedule is evidently a little easier than that of the Braves.
Harper was brought to the City of Brotherly Love to win divisions and (hopefully) playoff games. A win on Monday night could be a positive step in that direction.
