Pitcher Jack Flaherty wasn’t going to let Adam Wainwright celebrate his 40th birthday without trolling him a bit on Twitter.
Believe it or not, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright is no longer in his 30s anymore. With the starting pitcher looking like a young buck once again, he’s celebrating his 40th birthday on Monday. Despite climbing in age, Wainwright truly is having a season to remember.
At the end of the day, though, the man is now in his 40s. This is something 25-year-old pitcher Jack Flaherty knows about, which is why he was left with no choice but to take a playful jab at his teammate on Twitter.
Jack Flaherty trolling Adam Wainwright for turning 40 is downright hilarious
Welcome to the 40 club, Mr. Wainwright. Flaherty can enjoy this since he’s in his mid-20s, but you better believe Wainwright will remind him that the years fly by way faster than he thinks. With that said, Wainwright may be 40, but he’s really looking sharp these days.
On the season, the hard-throwing righty is 13-7 with a 2.97 ERA. In addition to that, Wainwright has posted 155 strikeouts. He’s putting up those kind of stats at 40? Goodness.
For St. Louis as a whole, the team is 66-63 on the season. While they’re out of the NL Central title race, the Cards are still in the hunt to try and grab a Wild Card spot. St. Louis is 3.5 games back of the Cincinnati Reds for that second Wild Card position. In order for the Cardinals to sneak into the playoffs, they’ll need to have a monster September.
Anything can happen, and the good news is that Wainwright is looking like an ace on the bump. He’s aging like a fine wine, and we can expect him to deliver some more quality starts the rest of the way.
