Could Kris Bryant return to Wrigley Field in a home uniform someday? He hasn’t ruled it out just yet.
Bryant’s return to Wrigley Field in rival colors is as emotional as it is bizarre, as the San Francisco Giants try to solidify their status in the NL West. The Giants currently have a 2.5 game lead over the second-place Los Angeles Dodgers.
Yet, Bryant is the centerpiece of this series in Chicago, especially considering how things ended with the Cubs. Jed Hoyer and the Cubs front office refused to give Bryant what he believes he’s worth.
Despite all of that, Bryant remains open to a return to the Cubs, whenever that opportunity presents itself.
Could Kris Bryant return to the Cubs this offseason?
Given the direction the Cubs are currently heading, it’s tough to imagine Bryant donning their uniform as soon as next season. Bryant wants to play for a winner as much as he wants to be paid. The Cubs will not be that next season unless they make some significant upgrades, and it appears they’re embracing a rebuild of sorts rather than spending big money this offseason.
Bryant could command up to $20 million per season depending on market value. At his best, he’s still an MVP-level talent.
The Cubs will not be providing that sort of offer, even if they do give Bryant a courtesy sit down. However, when Chicago’s timeline better lines up with Bryant’s contract status, there’s always a chance.
Never say never.
