In remembering comedian Norm MacDonald in his passing, Milwaukee Brewers fans reflect on his hilarious Bob Uecker story told on David Letterman.
After a nine-year battle with cancer, former SNL cast member Norm Macdonald passed away on Sept. 14. In the midst of his passing, fans remember MacDonald not only for his droll humor, but for the hilarity by which he described his closest friends.
One of those friends David Letterman once pointed out was former MLB player and longtime Milwaukee Brewers announcer Bob Uecker.
Describing Uecker as the “Voice of the Milwaukee Brewers”, Letterman admitted his friends had pestered him to press Macdonald for a Uecker gem.

With a wry smile, Macdonald described Uecker as “one of his best friends”, recounting the time Creedence Clearwater Revival rockstar John Fogerty attended a Brewers game.
Macdonald was famous for his comic impressions on SNL, and he didn’t disappoint when impersonating Uecker’s thick Wisconsin accent. As Macdonald recounted the story, as he and Uecker were sitting in the booth when the Brewers announcer pointed out the rockstar.
“I played in a golf tournament with him,” Uecker began. “You probably think of him as [someone] who likes to bite the heads off of chickens, but this guy can get it out of the sand trap like nobody’s business.”
Letterman and the audience erupted in laughter and applause as the comedian’s talents — and his love of baseball — were on full display.
An avid sports fan, Macdonald was known for joking and connecting with all kinds of athletes and sports personalities, a factor that likely contributed to his hosting of the ESPYs in 1998. In addition to baseball, Macdonald was known for being a dedicated NHL and golf fan, professing admiration for golfer Tiger Woods.
Macdonald proved that he was forever a Brewers fan with this snarky tweet in 2018.
Our thoughts go out to his family during this difficult time.
