New York Mets fans have seen enough of manager Luis Rojas, whose blunder in the 11th inning against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night cost the team a win.
The New York Mets had the chance to climb up the NL Wild Card standings on Tuesday night, as they took on the St. Louis Cardinals, who held the second spot via a tie with the San Diego Padres. After watching their 3-2 lead disappear via a two-run Tyler O’Neill homer in the eighth inning, second baseman Javy Baez sent the game into extra innings with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
After failing to knock in a run in the bottom of the tenth, manager Luis Rojas called upon Jake Reed to try and prevent the Cardinals from scoring. Reed failed to do so, as he surrendered three runs on singles by Edmundo Sosa and Andrew Knizer to give the Cardinals a 7-4 lead.
Mets fans were understandably heated about Rojas’ decision to go with Reed instead of Trevor Williams, and called for his job on Twitter.

The Mets offense did show life in the bottom of the 11th inning, but they could only muster two runs, as they went on to lose the game 7-6.
Reed was activated hours before the game after he was placed on the injured list back on Aug. 20 due to right forearm inflammation. Prior to that, Reed had just pitched in just two games for the Mets, as he struck out five batters and allowed two hits in 4.0 innings of work. That was before he was sent to the injured list.
Many Mets fans were wondering why Rojas would not go with another option, like starting Williams in the top of the 11th. The NL Wild Card race is relatively crowded with the likes of the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies chasing the Padres and Cardinals for the last NL Wild Card spot, and every game remaining on the schedule is must-win. Rojas can ill-afford to make any more mistakes if the Mets were to clinch a postseason.
After his latest blunder on Tuesday night, it appears that some Mets fans have given up hope in Rojas leading the team to success.
