The San Diego Padres are shaking things up in their scouting department, which is mildly alarming for fans who expected a World Series run this season.
Things continue to get messier for the San Diego Padres.
Not only are the Padres going to miss the postseason in a year they were pegged to take the next step as a Big Player in the National League, but the turmoil has led to changes that could extend to all levels of the organization.

Those changes continued Wednesday by reassigning scouting director Mark Conner and naming Chris Kemp as amateur scouting director. President of baseball operations A.J. Preller, who signed a contract extension through 2026 in February, is likely to return next season. Manager Jayce Tingleris the most obvious candidate to be replaced, with frustration increasing inside his own clubhousein recent weeks.
Shaking things up in the scouting department is alarming only in that it felt like the Padres had one of the best farm systems in baseball. The development of the young roster that many believed could compete for a World Series this season was a feather in the cap to many Padres fans, but now it appears the franchise is going back to the drawing board.
