The New York Yankees plan on bringing back Aaron Boone next season and the decision makes no sense at all.
What in the world are the New York Yankees thinking right now? Despite the team completely blowing it this year, with the season ending last week in the AL Wild Card Game, all signs are pointing to Aaron Boone getting a new contract from the team.
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, club owner Hal Steinbrenner is ‘inclined’ to let Boone have another go in trying to help the Bronx Bombers win the World Series. There’s no doubt that Rays and Red Sox fans are doing cartwheels right now in celebration.
Aaron Boone returning to the Yankees next season is great news for the rest of the AL East
While Boone has meant so much to the organization over the years, people have been calling for him to be sent packing for a while now. The negative comments only got louder after the Boston Red Sox embarrassed New York in the AL Wild Card Game.
After that defeat, it really felt like Boone’s time leading the Yankees was done and that the team would go out and find a suitable replacement this offseason. Per Olney, though, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.
The Yankees are loaded with talent and there’s no question they have what it takes to compete for a World Series each season. With that said, Boone has disappointed in a big way in recent campaigns and the team has continuously failed to live up to the hype.
Should he return in 2021, he simply can’t have the Yankees playing for their postseason lives leading up to the final weekend of the regular season like they did this year. If that’s the case, then there will simply be no reason for him to keep leading the team moving forward.
The Yankees keeping Boone is really great news for Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays fans because it helps the chances their team will score wins over the Yankees because of Boone’s incompetence.
