David Ortiz was more than a little excited when Kyle Schwarber launched the third Red Sox grand slam of the last two games in the ALCS.
Red Sox fans come in all shapes and sizes, big, small and so on. One of the ones on the big side is, of course, “Big Papi” David Ortiz, the former Boston slugger and playoff hero.
Nowadays, Ortiz is part of the MLB Postseason pregame show for FOX. As such, he’s in a room with the rest of the crew watching the Red Sox and Astros in the ALCS. Big Papi, however, is having a bit more fun than the other guys.
On Monday night as the Red Sox made history with their third grand slam of the ALCS, the first time ever a team has as many in one series thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s blast, Ortiz was in the green room nearly unable to contain his excitement at watching Boston pour it on:
David Ortiz is every Red Sox fan watching all these grand slams.
All told, there isn’t a Red Sox fan in the United States who can’t relate to Big Papi after that moonshot.
Since suffering the Game 1 loss to the Astros, Boston has been firing on all cylinders, particularly at the plate. Schwarber added his grand slam to the pair hit by J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers in Game 2, which was also the first time a team had hit two grand slams in the same playoff game. Martinez also added another 2-run homer in Game 3 to push the lead even more out of reach.
With two more games in Fenway Park after Monday night, it kind of feels like there’s some magic in Boston brewing.
