It wasn’t all too long ago Ozzie Guillen and his Chicago White Sox were the champions.
On Tuesday afternoon, former Major League Baseball manager Ozzie Guillen went to Twitter to remember the time he and the Chicago White Sox won the World Series in 2005.
Those Guillen-led Sox finished the regular season with a record of 99-63, dominating the American League Central. This was just the beginning, however, as they were preparing to embark on a journey that would come to be one of the most dominant postseasons in history.
It started in the divisional round in a battle of the Sox, though it wasn’t much of a fight. The White Sox swept the Boston Red Sox in three games thanks to wins from starting pitchers Jose Contreras, Mark Buehrle, and Freddy Garcia. Next up were the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, who almost surrendered to the same formula. The Angels squeaked out a Game 1 victory in Chicago, winning 3-2, but that was the end of their fun. The White Sox outscored the Angels 21-8 in the remaining four games, and they were headed to their first World Series since 1959.

Guillen’s White Sox not only won the World Series in 2005, they swept their opponent, blanking the then National League champion Houston Astros four games to none. The series included a remarkable fourteen inning thriller in Game 3 the White Sox won 7-5. In the 2005 postseason, the Sox went a remarkable 11-1, only losing the one game to the Angels in the ALCS.
Guillen is now an analyst for NBC Sports Chicago during the White Sox season, taking part in the pre and post game coverage. He has hinted an interest in returning to manage in the majors again.
