Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman shared an update on social media after receiving wrist surgery on his right arm on Nov. 8.
For Astros fans who thought third baseman Alex Bregman wasn’t up to par in the postseason, the reason behind his performance might have finally been revealed on Monday.
Less than a week after the Astros lost Game 6 of the World Series, Bregman underwent surgery on his right wrist.
Bregman shared a post-surgery photo on his Instagram account on Monday.
“All went good; [strong] again soon” read Bregman’s caption.

After it was revealed that Bregman had been struggling with a wrist injury throughout the post-season, Astros fans speculated as to why Bregman was even kept in the World Series lineup.
Another takeaway from Bregman’s surgery news was the fact that a healthy Aledmys Diaz was available to play third base rather than an injured Bregman. It was a decision that some fans speculate could have even cost the Astros the title.
This isn’t the first time the Astros have kept player injuries secretive during the post-season. In. 2018, Jose Altuve played through a severe injury in his right knee. Two days after the Astros were eliminated from the playoffs, Altuve underwent surgery.
Before Game 5 of the 2018 ALCS, Astros manager A.J. Hinch even admitted that Altuve was “playing on one leg.”
In Bregman’s case, he was batting with one significantly painful wrist, which explains why he hit just .217/.304/.300 with 15 strikeouts in 69 postseason plate appearances.
Bregman is expected to heal within 6-10 weeks and should be ready to resume baseball activities at 2022 Spring Training.
