With the New York Mets still hoping to hire a new manager, Max Scherzer has reportedly let management know who is on his mind.
Who is the next man up to lead the New York Mets? Fans all over Flushing are waiting for the front office to pull the trigger and hire a new manager. If you ask new ace hurler Max Scherzer, though, there’s one name who he’d love to be in charge.
According to Mets insider Pat Ragazzo, his sources have informed him that Scherzer is hoping that Buck Showalter will be the new skipper for the Queens side. Will this end up going down in the near future?
Max Scherzer wants Buck Showalter to be the new Mets manager
Scherzer just signed his monster three-year deal with New York, and now he’s ready to help out with some big-time decisions as well. Showalter has 20 years of managing experience, as he’s previously held the job with the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers and Orioles.
Showalter most recently spent nine seasons with Baltimore, leading the AL East team to a 669-684 record during that time. He and the team parted ways following the 2018 season and Showalter hasn’t been in the dugout since.
Instead, he’s been busy in the broadcast game. With that said, it’s clear that he’s not ready to retire from his coaching career. With the Mets looking for someone to take over, and Scherzer pushing for him, this could end up being a good fit.
While other names have been mentioned as a potential new manager for the Mets, it could be wise for general manager Billy Eppler to move forward with Showalter. Fans in New York would like the hire if it’s made, as would Scherzer.
