The New York Mets have poached Eric Chavez from the New York Yankees to be their new hitting coach.
Just when you thought the New York Yankees haters out there were running out of material, Steve Cohen and the Mets have come in and saved the day. That’s because before he could even coach a game with the Bronx Bombers, Chavez is on his way out of the Bronx.
Instead, Chavez will be taking a short subway ride over to Queens to become the Mets’ new hitting coach. The news was broken by MLB insider Mark Feinsand.
Mets poach Eric Chavez from Yankees to be the new hitting coach
Earlier this offseason, Chavez had accepted a job with the Yankees as assistant hitting coach. Fans were excited to see him try and make a difference. However, the Mets were granted permission to speak with Chavez and he’s decided to take the bigger role and head to the other team in New York.
In what was supposed to be a big winter for New York, the team has seemingly struck out on its main free agent targets, while losing Chavez to the Mets only adds to the sting.
While there’s still plenty of time this offseason for the Yankees to make a big splash – including signing Carlos Correa or Freddie Freeman – the supporters in uptown New York are losing patience and growing more frustrated. This latest Chavez update makes things worse, especially with the Mets being the ones to do the damage.
