Despite his role in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal, free agent shortstop Carlos Correa could sign with a former enemy in the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Correa’s connection with the Dodgers isn’t new, as Los Angeles could use a shortstop after losing Corey Seager to the Texas Rangers. Now being repped by Scott Boras, Correa is unlikely to come down from his demands of a 10-year contract worth upwards of $350 million.
If any team can match that, it’s the Dodgers, who print money on a frequent basis.
FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray suggests LA could be a very real landing spot despite past tension between the two sides over the Astros sign-stealing scandal.
“The fit is there for another shortstop because they can move Trea Turner to second base. They have the money…I wouldn’t rule it out,” Murray said on the Baseball Insiders podcast.
Dodgers rumors: Does Carlos Correa make sense?
Were it not for the obvious negative history between the two sides, there’d be a lot more smoke connecting Correa to the Dodgers. Assuming they meet his price tag, however, Correa has stated he’d welcome to opportunity to play pretty much anywhere, including teams in the midst of a rebuild. He won’t have to worry about that with the Dodgers.
Los Angeles has other holes to fill, and must figure out what to do with Clayton Kershaw and Kenley Jansen, both of whom remain free agents for the time being.
Correa isn’t Los Angeles’ only concern, but he gives them an elite middle of the infield and a good backup plan if Turner leaves next offseason.
