Carlos Correa makes his Minnesota Twins debut on Sunday afternoon as his team takes on the Boston Red Sox in spring training.
Correa signed with Minnesota in a relative surprise to the baseball community, as the top-rated free agent entered the offseason expecting a contract north of $350 million, and for a deal lasting a decade or perhaps longer.
Instead, the Twins signed Correa to a three-year deal — one that will make him the highest-paid infielder in baseball — which has two opt outs. It’s a win-win for both sides, as it gives Minnesota one of the best players in all of baseball, and perhaps allows Correa to retest the free agent market should he choose.
