Cleveland Guardians fans may have reason to worry if a recent tweet from Jose Ramirez’s agent has anything to do with contract negotiations.
Word out of Cleveland over the past week has suggested the Guardians are working on an extension for star third baseman Jose Ramirez.
The idea of the team shelling out a big contract to keep Ramirez in place was music to the ears of most fans in Cleveland but wanting to get a deal done and actually getting it done are to different things.
All it took was a simple “LOL” to put Guardians fans on high alert.
Jose Ramirez rumors: Cryptic tweet from agent doesn’t bode well for Guardians
On Thursday, Ramirez’ agent Rafa Nieves tweeted those three letters without any other context.
Is it certain that LOL had anything to do with Ramirez or contract talks between Cleveland and the player? Absolutely not.
However, most of Nieves’ most recent tweets have been about Ramirez. Before the LOL, he addressed a report that the Guardians and Ramirez were in the middle of negotiations in Goodyear.
“I’m in Los Angeles, but okay,” Nieves wrote.
So, there’s a decent possibility the LOL was about something relating to Ramirez. Based on Cleveland’s history, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if talks weren’t going particularly well.
Reports have suggested the Guardians want to get a deal done before Opening Day, which is just a week away. The clock is ticking. Laughter doesn’t exactly feel like a good sign to be coming from Ramirez’s camp.
