MLB fans came together to laugh at the Houston Astros for losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks on a walk-off fielding error.
Walk-off wins are a wonderful phenomenon in baseball. It turns out, that joyous moment can get taken up a notch by coming in extra innings…on an error…by the Astros.
The Diamondbacks got their second win of the season just like that, benefiting from a simple fielding error by Houston’s Chas McCormick in left field.
The fly ball by Ketel Marte should have resulted in a run-of-the-mill out. It wouldn’t have gotten the Astros out of trouble completely with bases still loaded with one out to go, but it would have given them a chance to extend the game. Obviously, it didn’t happen that way.
MLB fans cheered the Astros embarrassing loss to the D’backs
The Astros are still widely jeered by MLB fans over their sign-stealing scandal so you can bet more than just Diamondbacks Twitter enjoyed that outcome. Around the league people celebrated.
A walk-off error will always be funny, let alone a walk-off error against a non-contender.
Arizona is not exactly built to win this year, which made Houston’s struggle to put them away all the more hilarious. The Astros pitchers walked Diamondbacks hitters nine times. Hitting wasn’t a fruitful exercise for either team.
Ironically, McCormick was one of the few Astros who was able to make contact. He went 3-for-4 and scored the tying run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
With the series split, Houston will now close out their road trip against the Mariners with three games over the weekend. The D’backs are heading out of town to face the Mets.
